POLITICAL ACTION

Recent Action:

Senator Jim Hughes Letter to the Editor regarding Worthington City Schools

We work in a profession that is profoundly affected by politics at all levels of government.  Your help is needed in taking action to address major challenges facing our schools, our fellow members, and the students we serve, including:

            • Inadequate State Education Funding

            • Unfunded Mandates from the Federal Government

            • Health Care Security for Current and Future Retired and Active Educators

Please join us in becoming a WEA “member lobbyist” by taking a few simple steps to help public policymakers understand how these issues affect you so that action may be taken to address the needs we face as public educators.

Here is what you can do:

1.)  Become informed.

This site will link you to valuable resources that will help you become an effective advocate.

2.)  Call, write, email, or visit your legislators.

Let our representatives and senators know about how school funding problems and other challenges we face affect you and your students, and ask for their help.  Link to Contacting Legislators Information here.

3.)  Strengthen public education when you vote.

WEA and our parent affiliates screen and recommend candidates for office who support public education.  Find out who these recommended candidates are before you vote and give them your support.

4.)  Support the OEA and NEA Funds for Children and Public Education.

Effective political action requires money.  Watch for more information on this from your Association representatives.

5.)  Be an active participant in the political process.

From time to time, you may be asked to attend special events or volunteer your time in other ways to help make a difference.  Check back here often for more details.

ACTION ALERT!!  Your help is needed NOW in the fight for adequate school funding.
